Roaster Oven Thanksgiving Turkey
Thanksgiving day is a national holiday in the United States. According to History, in 1621, the Plymouth colonists and the Wampanoag shared an autumn harvest feast that is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. For more than two centuries, days of thanksgiving were celebrated by individual colonies and states. It wasn’t until 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November. Today, Americans celebrate Thanksgiving with their families and with delicious dishes on the table. Nearly 90 percent of Americans eat the bird ( mostly Turkey) whether roasted, baked or deep-fried on Thanksgiving Day according to the National Turkey Federation.
While Thanksgiving celebration is practiced in different countries around the world, the cultural celebration is slightly different in each country. In Cameroon, we celebrate Thanksgiving Sunday. It's a day when farmers bring a portion of their crops and livestock to the church to give thanks for a fruitful harvest. The items are then sold to raise funds for the church.
When I relocated from Cameroon to the United States in late October 2002, I was immediately welcomed into an atmosphere of Thanksgiving preparation. The Thanksgiving travels, Thanksgiving menu, Thanksgiving recipes and of course Thanksgiving Turkey. As the days passed and Thanksgiving Day came, my family traveled to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where I spent and experienced my first Thanksgiving Day with the rest of my family members. It was my first time eating Turkey. I called it a very Bigggggg Chicken hahahaha.
As the years passed, celebrating the American Thanksgiving Day has become a tradition of acculturation by many immigrant families living in the United States. Many immigrants also travel national and international to join their families for Thanksgiving. They cook their native traditional dishes with recipes passed down from generation to generation. Amongst the delicious dishes on the menu, there is the Thanksgiving Turkey at the center of the table seasoned to perfection and culturally appealing to the palate. Join me as I share with you my Roaster Oven Thanksgiving Turkey recipe that will leave your family and guests to say hmmmm! Hmmm! Hmmmm! this is delicious.

How to Make Thanksgiving Turkey
Season Turkey with salt and bouillon and place it in the refrigerator overnight.
When ready to cook the Turkey, remove it from the refrigerator and set aside.
Pour 1/2cup of the cooking oil in the green spice marinade and mix well then thoroughly marinade the Turkey with green spice marinade.
4. Fold the turkey wings and tuck them underneath the bird’s back to prevent the wings from burning and ensuring that they cook evenly.
5. Stuff the turkey with the stuffing ingredients and use the kitchen twine to tie up the Turkey thighs to prevent the stuffings from falling out.
6. Place the Turkey into the roaster oven and cook the Turkey following the directions on your turkey package or roaster oven manual. For this recipe I cooked the turkey at 450 degrees for 6 hours.
Note: The cooking time depends on the size and the weight of the turkey. Read the directions on the turkey package or roaster oven to determine the cooking time for your turkey. Uncooked or undercooked turkey can cause serious health problems.
7. Turn off the roaster oven when the turkey is done. Slice a piece of the Tuckey and place on a plate. Add the Turkey stock from the roaster oven, serve and enjoy with your family as you celebrate a wonderful thanksgiving.
